Joe Biden is not the sharpest of tools in the shed. It’s no surprise that he cannot remember the difference between Tina Fey, former SNL actress, and Sarah Palin, former Alaska Governor.
Phillip Wegmann, a White House reporter from RealClearPolitics claims that Biden claimed Monday that while working for Obama, he had worked with all the state governors, “save one”. He didn’t name Palin because he can’t recall it but called her the governor who “can view Alaska from her porch.”
Biden was wrongly referring to Palin. Sarah Palin never claimed she could see Russia from her porch. Biden misattributed to her the sentiment of Tina Fey, who played Palin on Saturday Night Live. Fey, playing Palin’s foreign policy credentials, said, “And I Can See Russia From My House.” This skit was a mockumentary of Sarah Palin’s interview on ABC News with Charles Gibson. Gibson asked her about the insights she gained from being governor in a state so close by Russia. She replied, “They’re our neighbors, and they can actually see Russia from here in Alaska, or from an island in Alaska.” This was a pragmatic way to explain how she, as Alaska governor, was not far from foreign policy issues.
Joe Biden also referred back to Palin in February 2020 as “that woman who could see Russia from Alaska,” though it isn’t clear if he really forgot her name or is still childishly mocking Palin.
It wouldn’t surprise me at this point if Joe Biden believes he was once part of SNL’s cast.
